PRACTICES
Ultimate Frisbee practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays outside in the field between Byng and JQ. Practices starts at 3:15 pm and ends at 4:30 pm. Players must bring: a full water bottle, healthy snacks, sport footwear.
PRACTICES EXPECTATIONS
- Attendance: Choosing to be involved in a school sport is a decision that needs to be considered carefully. Student-athletes who choose to play a sport will need to make a significant commitment during that season and will be expected to maintain the balance between sport, student academic responsibilities as well as other life commitments. Coaches voluntarily give their time, and therefore players should do their very best to give full commitment to activities in which they participate. Players are expected to attend all training sessions and games unless they are medically unable to or have made previous arrangements with the coach. Practices are excused – sickness, family illness or emergency. Please let the coach know if you will be gone ahead of time if possible.
- Citizenship: Players are expected to put learning first and maintain a high standard of behaviour and attitude as a part of the Jules Quesnel Ultimate Frisbee team. All athletes, coaches and sponsors, are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate and responsible manner at all times. This includes sportsmanship on and off the field. Non satisfactory citizenship may result in revoking playing privilege.
- Arrive on time and ready to practices. Start the warm up routine right away
- When the whistle blows or the signal is given everybody stop right away, gather in a demi-circle around the coaches and listens
- No leaving the gym/field without permission of the coach
- When players are not participating in a scrimmage or drill, they are to stand watching and listening
- When a coach is speaking, everybody listens
- Use positive and supportive language, don’t criticise a teammate, welcome all players
- Help with set up the field at the beginning, help with cleaning the field at the end of practices
- Respect everyone
- Know the rules of the game, and accept the outcome of the game
- Say thank you and good bye to the coaches before leaving practices and games
- Communication: When there are issues such as conflicts, injuries or other issues, the coaching team expects the player to make every effort to communicate to players and to coaches. Parents can certainly help support communication, but we would like to hear directly from the players. This gives students a chance to act independently and responsibly in making plans for oneself.
- Equipment: Resources are limited. Lost or damaged school equipment have a direct impact on the next student-athlete to play that sport. Therefore, we rely on the players to do their best to take care of school equipment. Damaged, lost or unreturned equipment will result in a charge for the full cost of the replacement.
